TEACHING METHODOLOGIES

The methodologies that I have incorporated into my teaching often overlap and are designed to engage multiple intelligences and learners.

Collaborative and Cooperative Learning Techniques
Small and large group discussions/dialogues, problem solving assignments in class
Group performance projects that often require students to meet outside of class
Class games, such as Jeopardy, used as entry points for discussion and review
Partner projects (monologue, speech or writing “buddies” to work together on specific assignments)

Hands-on Learning Techniques
Group or individual projects that require students to use the knowledge they have gained in class to create original performances/presentations
Field trips to experience theatre productions
Incorporating guest artists into the syllabi and rehearsal process
Writing assignments designed with a performance/presentation component
Projects that require the use of other mediums such as paintings, collages, sculptures, etc.

Creating One-on-One Learning Situations
Collaborative and Cooperative Learning Techniques
Student/Teacher Conferences (for writing guidance and/or performance instruction). These conferences are graded and built into the syllabi
Lectures/Discussion
Lectures that includes questions, dialogue and aesthetic components Power Point, video, DVD, pictures, etc.

Reflection and Evaluation Techniques
Written evaluations are built into all performance assignments
Peer evaluations assigned to specific performance assignments or presentations
Weekly journals and assignments for students to reflect on their own processes and growth

A Variety of Tools to Assess Knowledge of Material
Continual assessment through out the semester in the form of:
Weekly quizzes
Weekly Journal entries
In-class assignments
Short evaluation papers (reports, observations)
Midterm exams or papers
Final exams, final papers or final group projects that include self and peer evaluations of class performances and presentations
